How Estarol Duo works
Estarol Duo®
Estarol Duo is a combination of Atorvastatin and Ezetimibe, presented in oral-release tablets for the effective management of cholesterol. Each tablet combines these two molecules to improve lipid profile control in patients with hypercholesterolemia.
Estarol Duo is indicated for the treatment of high cholesterol in adults and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients who have not responded adequately to diets or other treatments. It is suitable for primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed hyperlipidemia, prevention of cardiovascular disease, post-cardiovascular event therapy and, according to medical evaluation, familial hypercholesterolemia.
Atorvastatin is a competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the key enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. Ezetimibe inhibits the intestinal absorption of cholesterol, complementing the action of atorvastatin. The combined action provides a significant reduction in LDL and total cholesterol levels.
The dose should be adjusted according to cholesterol levels and the patient’s response. Typical starting dose: one tablet daily, preferably at night, to take advantage of the body’s natural cholesterol synthesis cycle. Can be taken with or without food.
The combination in a single tablet facilitates treatment adherence, simplifying the patient’s medication regimen. Improves the lipid profile more effectively than the use of each component separately.
Use only when the benefits outweigh the risks. Verify that the patient has tried to modify their diet and lifestyle before prescribing. Initiate and adjust treatment under medical supervision, considering the patient’s response and tolerance.
Monitor blood lipid levels and adjust the dose as necessary. Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease. Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevation of serum transaminases.
